Choose a style, choose a chord progression in any key, and Fretnook builds a band for you to play over: drums, bass, keys and horns. No recording needed, and you can change the chords, the energy and the tempo any time.
It sits under the DAW with the Recorder, Drums and Looper.
Choose a key, then a preset such as 12-bar blues, pop I-V-vi-IV, rock, country or jazz ii-V-I. The chords appear in the box, and you can type your own.
Pick a style such as Blues Shuffle or Funk, switch Drums, Bass, Keys and Horns on or off, and set the tempo, energy and length.
Press Preview to play it. New Variation makes a different version, and Bounce to Tracks puts each part on its own track.
Rock, Pop, Blues Shuffle, Slow Blues, Funk, Country, Reggae and Ballad.
Twelve-bar blues, pop, rock, doo-wop, country, a minor jam and a jazz ii-V-I, in all twelve keys.
Piano, electric piano, finger, pick and upright bass, brass section, trumpet, trombone and saxes.
Type a progression such as Am | F | C | G, with two chords in a bar if you want.
Energy and Busy-ness sliders, optional drum fills, and a tempo you set yourself.
Bounce each part to its own track and mix it, or record your guitar over it.
The 12-bar blues is the most useful progression a guitarist can learn. Set the key to A, choose the 12-bar blues preset and the Blues Shuffle style, and loop it while you practise the minor pentatonic scale. Slow Blues gives you a laid-back feel for bends and long notes.
If you want the band to match a song you wrote, record your guitar first and use Listen & Suggest on the Band tab. Fretnook works out the tempo, key and chords of your take and builds the band to match.
If you play along with the backing track through your speakers and record, the microphone hears the band as well as your guitar. Headphones keep the recording clean.
Fretnook is free and runs in your browser. Your microphone audio and recordings stay on your device.
